American Socialism?
Just ran across this blog today and found this.
As much as I would like to ignore what is going on in this country I can’t. My heart is broken for the country I love and the Bride of Christ.
American Socialism?
Norman Matton Thomas (November 20, 1884 – December 19, 1968) was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1911. As a candidate for President of the U. S., Norman Thomas said, in a 1944 epoch speech: “The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of “liberalism”, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” He went on to say: “I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform.”

How true… how true bro!
The quote may be good, but it’s unverified.

Most socialists (now and from what I’ve read, then) view(ed) democrats the way most libertarians view republicans – watered down versions of a potent ideology.
And unfortunately neither democrats nor republicans have a conception of ‘small government’, so their spheres of confluence often exceed their areas of differentiation, although that’s slowly changing.
My concern is less with the economic decisions made, as the scope and direction of the economic decisions – pointing steadily north on the Political Compass (http://www.politicalcompass.org/) on economics as the Bush presidency had in local and foreign policy and defense.
